Adapted from The God of Healing:
The key to good health is praying to God every morning, before we set out: what our bodies need for us to eat; what we must avoid; our inner purity (which heals).
The Holy Spirit is the greatest Physician -- with prevention, diagnosis, and cure.
His prognosis: happiness.
Don't let anyone sway you otherwise.
When He is joined with what He made, there is the recipe for healthfulness.
As one expert (a physician) wrote, "Jesus ate primarily natural foods in their natural states -- lots of vegetables, especially beans, and lentils. He would have eaten wheat bread, fruit, drunk a lot of water and also red wine. And He would only eat meat on special occasions, maybe once a month." Grapes. Barley. Lettuce. Parsley. Basil. Horseradish. Peppers. Endive. Apples. Apricots. Melons. Cucumbers. Fava beans. Chickpeas. Onions. Leeks.
These are all foods that surrounded the Holy Family. Terrific for us: broccoli, kale, flaxseed, oranges.
A twenty-three-old identified only as "J. J." was told that he had a two percent chance of living out the year due to cancer that had spread from a testicle to his lungs, left kidney, and neck. Desperate doctors tried intravenous chemotherapy, which led to racking convulsions.
"[One] night, he dreamed his (deceased) mother came to him and told him, 'Go to St. Joseph's Oratory' in Montreal,'" wrote author William Fischer in a book called How to Fight Cancer and Win. So compelling was the dream that J. J. climbed the many steps to the oratory on his knees. Soon after, he heard about the strict and simple diet of macrobiotics, whereby foods, especially whole grains, are eaten in their natural state, though he didn't try it right away. Meanwhile, the conventional treatments were wreaking havoc. J. J.'s teeth were loosening. His nausea was horrible. His mouth was encrusted with sores as the treatments destroyed much of his immune system (which should be bolstered and not compromised in order to fight cancer).
The medicine was worse than the disease, and so this young man stopped it and headed back for the oratory with his fiancee.
"As J. J. made the tortuous climb up the mountain steps on his knees, he prayed at each step for his relatives, ancestors, and friend who needed help, but not for himself," noted Fischer. ""J. J. grew up with a strong belief that God knows what you need; you don't have to ask. With each step up, he experienced a warm feeling, [in thinking] that he would practice macrobiotics, the tumors would disappear, and he would regain his health. And so it happened. When the young couple returned home, they began studying macrobiotics and put the program into practice. Once he began the macrobiotic diet, J. J. saw his strength return quickly. After a year, blood tests showed no signs of cancer and the tumor in his neck had virtually disappeared. His wasted body was fleshed out with healthy muscle, his hair had grown back, and he was once again trim and fit. A very vital young man, J. J. himself says he feels better now than when he was playing high-school football."
