The Shroud In 3-D

After two years of work, the University and the Hospital of Padua have created what is currently the most scientifically reliable three-dimensional model of the image impressed on the Shroud.

The 180-cm statue, cast in plaster (to avoid possible shrinking) by the sculptor Sergio Rodella, offers the image of a man with a noble and majestic appearance, with a tall and yet robust body. “The 3D reconstruction – the coordinator of the project, Prof. Giulio Fanti of the Department of Industrial Engineering of the University of Padua, explains – has allowed to reconstruct the position of the corpse”.

He was not in supine position, but, due to rigor mortis, his bust is rotated, his head bowed and knees bent. His dislocated shoulders, already documented for some time, explain how it was possible to join the arms of the corpse to cover the pubis without them being tied. There are already other statues of Christ obtained from the Shroud, just think of the famous one by the sculptor Luigi Mattei on the occasion of the Great Jubilee of 2000, but this has been reproduced using new innovative techniques, on the basis of measurements 90%. scientifically detectable on the Holy Cloth.
