A STRANGE, DARK UNDERSIDE TO QUAINT CITY

Forces of darkness ambush us, don't they?
They lie in wait. Always. Constantly.
They blind and bind.
They blindside us: Too often, the devil lurks around the corner with a two-by-four.
Surely you've had this happen: Suddenly, things go wrong -- sometimes very wrong. Darkness can hide behind people. It can sneak from behind things. Shadows hide shadows. It especially likes taking over places: In these "reports" we've seen time and again how localities can be and have been what Scripture calls "sorely afflicted" (with spirits).
And so it was with us recently at a spot in North Carolina, where we were certainly blindsided. We stopped to view the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains and stayed over night. Nice community. On the surface, tidy. Extraordinary scenery. A quaint, renovated downtown with interesting shops and good restaurants.
That's what was observed in the physical.
But on leaving, things unraveled: One issue after another, in quick (and in one case, harrowing) succession. There was what you might call a "series of unfortunate events." Suffice is to say that it caused us to ask what might be beneath the surface, to take a deeper look.
And when we did: wham.
The city in question--considered by many the place for a summer home, a great autumn destination, or even a spiritual "refuge"-- exists, we learned, on a configuration of geography that many claim carries special spiritual meaning.
More to the point, for this new "Special Report," it's part of a theoretical global grid or configuration of lines that -- as we will now explore -- seems to draw intangible energy, energies that at times attract the right kind of spirituality, perhaps, but in other cases, potent forces of darkness.
